New York's Largest Solar Project is Now Underway
- Cider Solar—Hecate Energy’s newest and most ambitious solar project—is now under construction, marking a major step forward in the state’s clean energy future.
- 500 megawatts of renewable power, enough to provide clean electricity for more than 120,000 homes annually
- Allows for both solar generation and agricultural activity across 3,000 acres in the towns of Elba and Oakfield
- The first project approved under New York’s new renewable energy permitting process, setting a precedent for future clean energy development
- The project will offset approximately 680,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide a year, equivalent to annual emissions from about 150,000 passenger vehicles.
- Sun-tracking solar panels will follow the sun throughout the day to maximize energy production
- Wildlife-friendly fences and landscaped tree buffers to minimize visual impact and support the local environment
